April 2016, LEXINGTON, Ky.- A Lexington woman has been charged with defrauding a local business and illegally obtaining prescription narcotics.
Lexington Police arrested Elsie Leighanne Lamb, 32, in connection with crimes committed while she was employed at a local dentist’s office.
Police say Lamb was employed at the dentist’s office from February to November 2015. They say among her job duties were coordinating patient payments and accounts billable and filing insurance claims for the business.
Investigators believe that Lamb financially benefited from 34 falsely endorsed checks that were addressed to the dentist and deposited into her personal account, totaling more than $15,000.
Police say Lamb over-billed and submitted false or inflated claims to insurance providers so that she could carry out the crime. Police tell WKYT that Lamb then altered or deleted payment information associated with these claims to conceal the embezzlement.
Lamb is also charged with using a DEA number assigned to her employer to obtain controlled substances for herself. Investigators determined that Lamb phoned in false prescription orders from the dentist’s office.
